Uniforms and Dress Code

• Definition of “Uniform Colors” - Red, white, maize, navy blue, dark green, khaki.
• Uniforms for all CCA students are mandatory. Uniforms must be from Lands’ End unless noted below.
• Uniforms must be worn during school hours, except under special circumstances such as free dress days and other occasions.
• Uniforms must be worn for all before and after school programs as well as for all tutoring and enrichment sessions, except on occasions when costumes may be required for dress rehearsals or uniforms or gym clothes are required for athletic activities.
• Students must present a neat appearance. All articles of clothing should be neat, clean, and in good condition. Clothing with torn knees or other visible rips may not be worn. Shirts must be tucked into shorts, pants, skirts and skorts. Pants and skirts should fit the wearer so that the waistband is worn above the hips.
• Any special need for exception to the dress code must be approved by CCA Leadership. 
• Articles of clothing or jewelry worn as a means of religious expression are not a violation of, or exception to, the dress code. They do not require special exception or permission.
• Dress code infractions will be dealt with in accordance with the CCA Discipline Policy.
• Shoes for all students must be closed toed with backs. No boots, sandals, clogs, high heels or platforms may be worn. Shoes with lights or wheels are not allowed. Athletic shoes are required for PE class.
• Snow boots must be changed into school-approved shoes when inside the building.
• Socks, tights, leggings, or hosiery must be worn by all students, at all times. These items may be purchased from Lands’ End or any other retailer. Stripes, patterns, lace, and other embellishments are not permitted. Socks and leggings must be a “Uniform Color”. Tights/hosiery must be a “Uniform Color”, black, or natural (skin-toned). Socks may be low cut, ankle, or knee length. Leggings must be below the knee.
• Belts must be worn with pants and shorts that have belt loops. Belts must be brown, black, or a “Uniform Color”. Buckles should be plain. Belt loops may not be removed from pants or shorts.
• Inconspicuous shorts may be worn under skirts and jumpers. Pants that show underneath these articles of clothing are not allowed.
• CCA t-shirts may only be worn on Fridays. CCA hoodies may be worn all week by students in grades 5-8 for indoor and outdoor use. The 1⁄4 zip pullover with CCA crest or logo may be worn all week by students in grades K-8 for indoor and outdoor use.
• Outerwear that is worn for warmth to and from school or outside recess is not considered uniform wear. Any sweaters worn inside the classroom must be from Lands’ End.
• Small post earrings are permitted; no dangling or hoop-style earrings are allowed. Rings and bracelets (one bracelet per arm/wrist), if worn, must not be so bulky or loose that they interfere with a student’s safety or reasonable participation in classroom tasks. Athletic wristbands or wide leather-type bracelets are not allowed. Medical bracelets may be worn.
• Hair must be neat, clean, and should not impede a student’s safety or reasonable classroom participation. Hairstyles such as braids, locs, twists, tight coils or curls, cornrows, Bantu knots, afros, and headwraps are acceptable. Students may be required to tie back or otherwise secure long hair for certain activities where safety is a consideration, such as during a science lab, or for athletic activity.
• Hair color which does not occur in nature (i.e., blue, green, pink, purple, etc.) is prohibited. Hair accessories (i.e., headbands, barrettes, ribbons, headwraps) must be black, brown, or a "Uniform Color".
• No facial cosmetics may be worn in grades K-6. Fingernail polish may be worn in any grade, however, colors must be conservative and not distracting/extreme (i.e. black, blue, day-glo etc.). Markings donned as a means of religious expression (i.e. bindi, ashes, etc.) are not a violation of dress code, and students shall not be required to remove such markings for any purpose or activity.
• Hats are generally prohibited while inside the building. Baseball hats and visors worn outside must be worn with the bill facing forward, bill down. Headwear donned as a means of religious expression (i.e. hijab, kippah/yarmulke, turban, etc.) are not a violation of dress code, and students shall not be required to remove religious headwear for any purpose or activity. Students may be asked to secure headwear to address concerns pertaining to safety or reasonable class participation (for example, tucking in the loose ends of a scarf during athletics).
• A plain white undershirt, or a t-shirt (without graphics) matching the color of uniform shirt, may be worn. Long-sleeve t-shirts are not to be worn under short-sleeved uniform shirts.

Students may wear clothing other than those required by the CCA Dress Code on approved
“free dress” days. Students must adhere to the general appearance guidelines stated above. Rules pertaining
to shoes, accessories, cosmetics, and the requirement that clothing should be in good condition are still
applicable. Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities such as physical education or
science labs where unique hazards may exist. Clothing shall not portray or reference vulgarity, profanity,
nudity, violence/weapons, drugs/alcohol, or illegal activity. Clothing may not use or depict hate speech
targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or
any other protected groups. Upper-body clothing should consist of opaque fabric that covers the front and
back of the body, from armpit-to-armpit, and must have sleeves or shoulder straps so that undergarments are
not visible. The hem of shorts, skirts, or dresses must fall below a student’s fingertips while standing with
arms extended straight down.

Any staff member may write students a Dress Code Infraction for failure to adhere to
code. For a first time issue, a Dress Code Infraction is a reminder to parents and students. Students are
expected to turn in the signed Infraction to the office the following school day. If a student breaks the same
dress code rule a third time, a CAP 1 will be issued. Please refer to the CCA discipline policy.

Students and families seeking a cultural or religious exception to any dress code rule are encouraged to express their specific concerns to the CCA Administration. Administration shall give due consideration to any such requests. It is our intention that this policy be in full compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal
regulations, including the state of Colorado’s CROWN Act (HB 20-1048).
